One night when I was in first grade, my family was just about to have what we call “couch night”, where we sit down together and watch a movie. Before we started, my dad announced, “I’ll go tie up Dakota (our dog). I’ll be right back.”
As he went out the garage way, he heard the wind howling. He was shocked that the garage door was blowing inward toward the inside of the garage! When he was outside, he noticed that Dakota was walking sideways! Once he got in, the electricity went off. He shouted, “Grab the Uno cards, the water jug, some candles, and some flashlights! Then head downstairs!”
We grabbed the stuff and scurried downstairs. My mom lit the candles. I held the flashlight tight in my hands while I set up the Uno cards with my other hand. I asked, “What’s happening? I’m scared.”. “Nothing, don’t worry,” he reassured me. “Let’s just play Uno!” My parents made me go to sleep upstairs.
The next day, we went through the cornfield on the golf cart. We saw a deep line dug into field. Then my dad said in a muffled voice, “That was a tornado yesterday.”
